Easy Vegan Food Swaps
If you’re used to eating tons of meat, fish, eggs and dairy, going vegan can be super challenging.
There are a ton of food swaps you can do to replace the foods you’re used to eating and make them vegan-friendly.
Let’s talk about some of them:
● Flaxseed and chia seed “eggs” can replace eggs, especially in baking. Just mix 1 tbsp of chia or flax seeds with 6 tbsp of water and let the mixture sit for a while until it gels.
● For other egg-based dishes, tofu can be a great egg substitute. You can even scramble it for an alternative to scrambled egg. It also works great in omelets, frittatas, and quiches. If you find tofu a bit bland by itself, try cooking it with spices or curry paste. It’ll absorb the flavors super well.
● Jackfruit has a pulled-pork consistency when it’s cooked and can be a great meat swap. Season it with a vegan-friendly marinade and it’s super hard to tell the difference!
● Lentils can also be a good swap for meat and can work really well in pasta dishes, chillis, tacos, and casseroles. They’re also a great source of iron and folate, which vegans can commonly lack.
● If you love your meat burgers, swap them for bean burgers. They have a similar texture to meat and they’re a great source of vegan protein.
● Hummus is an ideal sub for mayonnaise.
● Agave nectar is a perfect swap for honey.
● Butter can be swapped for avocado, nut butter or hummus.
Until next time,
